The condition of the African American community has been considered since the end of the civil war. The everlasting gap between Blacks and other ethnic groups in education, assets, wealth and family life is no secret. Many scholars have sought to study and provide a remedy, yet the complexity of the gap still exists at an alarming rate. According to Isabelle Wilkerson’s article, “Race to the Bottom,” the issues plaguing the Black race from the beginning placed them disproportionately at the bottom of the income bracket. The historical impact of racism and political policies aimed at oppression made it even harder for Blacks in America to progress economically. Thus arises the question of whether the African American community will forever be negatively affected by the evils of its past? What do you think….. is there hope for the Black community?
